Temporary Part-time Garden State Pathways Mentor

Position Goals
  • Mentors will support students daily and throughout the duration of the program, ensuring they remain task‑focused, reinforcing material presented, managing emotional issues, providing one‑to‑one support both in class and between sessions, and assisting students in accessing campus resources and services as needed. Mentors will encourage and promote participation within the college community.
  • Mentors will create and nurture a learning and working environment that affirms and leverages the community’s traditions, heritages, perspectives, and experiences, fostering a culture of excellence designed to facilitate the personal and professional success, growth, development, and well‑being of all members of our community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Reinforce material presented as needed to support students’ success.
  • Assist students in remaining task-focused.
  • Provide assistance outside the classroom to prioritize and support academic assignments, vocational hours and campus activities.
  • Assist students to utilize college facilities (library, OIT, tutoring).
  • Guide the students toward achieving their academic objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of students’ progress via weekly journals.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a diverse population.
  • Escalate any concerns with regard to the student to the Assistant Director/Coordinator as soon as they arise.
  • Maintain student confidentiality at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to commit 5 to 15 hours a week during the academic school year.
  • Interest in working with students with intellectual/developmental disabilities ages 18–24.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and ability to multi‑task.
  • Completion of a minimum 12 college credits and a 2.5 GPA.
