Supervisor of Science and Physical Education

Job Goal:
To provide leadership, supervision, coordination, and innovation to the district's K-12 Science and Physical Education/Health programs so that each student may derive maximum benefit from participation

Employment

Terms:

Twelve-month year; tenure-track position Full-time; eligible for health insurance benefits Terms and conditions of employment to be specified in the negotiated Agreement between the Board of Education and the Paramus Association of School Principals.

Reports To:

Director of Curriculum, Supervision, and Accountability/Assistant Superintendent of Schools

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Education
  • New Jersey Certificate
    - Teacher of Subject Area K-12/N-12
  • New Jersey Certification
    - Supervisor/Principal
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership talent and abilities
  • Minimum five years' successful teaching/administrative experience
  • Knowledge of related educational curriculum/programs
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists principals in supervising, developing, and implementing the district's Grade K through Grade 12 Science and Physical Education/Health related instructional programs.
  • Recommends and coordinates programs of instruction for the students in Grades K-12.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and evaluates course offerings.
  • Promotes and monitors the articulation between the programs in Grades K-12 and the Pre-Kindergarten/Early Childhood Program.
  • Assists in the interpretation of policies, programs, and goals to staff and the public.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with district-level staff to ensure consistency of purpose and practice.
  • Assists the Test Coordinator with administration of standardized assessments.
  • Reviews and analyzes state and national test results and makes appropriate recommendations for improvement.
  • Provides input into the development of the district's budget.
  • Coordinates and assists in the adoption, development, revision, and publication of Science and Physical Education/Health related instructional program materials.
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate coordination between the basic instructional programs and various special programs.
  • Visits classrooms to model instructional strategies for teachers.
  • Provides leadership and direction for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the district's Science and Physical Education/Health instructional program.
  • Keeps district personnel informed about current trends in educational programs related to Science and Physical Education/Health.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of staff development programs.
  • Promotes and supports professional development for self and others.
  • Provides staff development workshops for Science and Physical Education/Health Teachers.
  • Attends meetings and conferences which promote professional growth and will benefit the district.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of district teachers.
  • Supervises assigned personnel, conducts observations, and makes recommendations for appropriate employment action.
  • Assists with interviewing and assessment of candidates' qualifications for employment.
  • Models and maintains high standards of professional conduct.
  • Coordinates special projects as needed.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of reports and records.
  • Serves on district committees as assigned.
  • Develops competitive grants.
  • Performs other appropriate responsibilities as assigned.

Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.

Salary: $135,000 - $145,000. Compensation is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
