Qualifications
  • Standard Certificate:

    School Social Worker
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Reports to

Superintendent and Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Services

Objective
  • As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the school social worker will assess and analyze the pupil’s adaptive social functioning and emotional development and of the family social and cultural factors, which influence the pupil’s learning and behavior in the educational setting.
  • Participate in the determination of eligibility of pupils for special education and/or related services.
  • Shall coordinate the development, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the individualized education programs.
  • Deliver appropriate related services to pupils with educational disabilities.
  • Provide prevention and support services to non-disabled pupils.
  • Provide services to the general education staff regarding techniques, materials and programs for pupils.
  • Provide consultation with school staff and parents.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Conducts evaluations and assesses the social and adaptive and emotional status of students referred to the Child Study Team.
  • Prepares reports of evaluation results, interprets the implications of significant social findings, participates in the development of individualized Educational Programs and in educational planning.
  • Performs re-evaluations and/or attends staff meetings and IEP conferences for classified students in district/out-of-district placements, as per arrangements between the home and sending/receiving districts and in compliance with state law.
  • Serves as case manager to those students who are assigned. Duties include gathering information for the IEP Annual Review and conducting the review, monitoring the progress of students, and facilitating changes in the program where indicated after appropriate team discussions.
  • Evaluates out-of-district instructional programs to determine the appropriateness of placement, as assigned.
  • Provides consultation to administrators, teachers and parents regarding social, emotional, academic concerns and progress of student.
  • Performs duties as part of a team effort, such as assisting with teacher in-service, Kindergarten Roundup, etc.
  • Provides counseling or other appropriate interventions for individual students or groups of students as approved by the Superintendent.
  • Offers support to parents who are having difficulties with their children in school related issues.
  • Serves as a liaison between school and family when there is a problem requiring good communication and understanding between home and school
  • Maintains a current knowledge of community agencies and other resources for helping families. Assists families in need of making use of these resources, and serves as a liaison between school and community agencies.
  • Deals with information received with tact with respect to confidentiality.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Services and/or the Superintendent.
