Job Description
Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care, ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan. The patient care process includes:
- Assessment – identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural aspects.
- Planning – identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that result in a documented plan of care, providing direction for the patient/family/significant other and interdisciplinary team.
- Intervention – specific interventions or orders implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation – determining the effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care and determining conclusions concerning achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes, potentially initiating reassessment and revisions to problems, goals, plan of care, and interventions.
Employee may be required to perform limited laboratory services including patient identification and preparation for specimen collection, processing samples for testing, performing required quality control testing, instrument maintenance and function checks, monitoring, recording and reporting test results, and maintaining competency/certification for these tasks.
Licensed and registered care providers are responsible for documenting the assessment, plan, intervention and evaluation consistent with their scope of practice and knowledge base. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines, and organizational policy.
The RN actively supports performance improvement initiatives and provides leadership to other members of the patient care team. By participating in educational activities, the RN assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.
Emergency Room2 years medical/surgical and/or emergency room experience preferred.
Certification Requirements- ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- ATCN or TNCC required within 24 months of hire or transfer.
- Minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic trauma assessment, intervention and stabilization.
- Minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment, intervention and NIHSS (completed by 6 months of hire and maintained thereafter).
- PALS or ENPC attained within 12 months of hire or transfer.
- Current staff must obtain CPI by 6/30/24; new hires or transfers require CPI within 6 months of hire and continuous maintenance thereafter.
- Wound care and HBO training course through Healogics required within 1 year of hire or transfer.
- (QPRT) annual education required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- CCRN or CPR training preferred for critical care units.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Nurses hired without a BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program within 1 year and complete it within 3 years.
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or a current multi-state license required.
- BLS required.
- Valid NJ Driver's License required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs.
- Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire; skill required within 30-60 days from date of hire.
- Experience in labor and delivery, neonatal, critical care, telemetry, cardiac ICU, endoscopy, and behavioral health settings varies by unit; 2 years preferred in most clinical areas.
- Specific experience: 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; critical care experience preferred; telemetry experience preferred; operating room experience preferred; cath lab or EP experience preferred.
