Position Overview
The Merchandise Sample Coordinator plays a key role in supporting Burlington's merchant organization by managing the end‑to‑end sample merchandise process and reducing administrative workload for the Buying team. The primary goal is to maintain an efficient, organized, and sustainable sample management process that allows merchants to focus on strategic business priorities and quickly respond to new opportunities.
This role coordinates the receipt, tracking, organization, storage, distribution, purging, and donation of merchandise samples, while supporting meetings, corporate events, and other sample‑related initiatives. The coordinator serves as the central point of coordination, ensuring samples are managed effectively throughout their lifecycle and readily available to support business needs.
A Day in the Life- Develop and maintain working relationships with cross‑functional departments and understand the sample management process.
- Manage and maintain assigned merchandising departments’ samples and storage areas:
- Coordinate receipt of merchandise samples from vendors/associates and retrieval from buyers’ storage areas.
- Collect, organize, store, mail or donate samples according to business needs.
- Manage weekly and monthly purge schedules and ensure compliance.
- Provide support to buyers with special equipment requests (sample racks, grids) for strategy and product review meetings.
- Assist Human Resources and buying teams with sample events, including collection of relevant samples, staging spaces for photography or associate purchases, and donation to charity.
- High school diploma required; college degree a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of merchandising experience.
- Knowledge of buying practices and sample management.
- Ability to balance and prioritize competing demands and lead a team of peers.
- Strong decision‑making skills and ability to influence individuals at multiple organization levels.
- Excellent oral and written communication, organizational and follow‑up skills.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel; knowledge of Facilities software (Service Channel) a plus.
- Physical ability to stand, walk through large buildings and sit in a cubicle environment, and lift up to 20lbs.
