POSITION: ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) TEACHER
RESPONSIBLE TO: DIRECTOR OF PUPIL SERVICES/BUILDINGS PRINCIPALS

JOB GOAL: Candidate must hold a valid teaching certificate within the state of Ohio with an endorsement in TESOL. Minimum of three to five years’ experience teaching English as a Second Language serving the Limited English Proficient student population is preferred. Teaching experience K-12 may vary. Outstanding personal/interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills; ability to keep concise records. Sensitivity to the developmental stages of children;
particular sensitivity to second language development/acquisition and cultural awareness. Openness towards parent communication. Experience with technology in facilitating instruction. Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education from an accredited college or university or equivalent
- Appropriate State of Ohio teaching license with TESOL endorsement
- Meet the applicable requirements of a “highly qualified” teacher defined by ODEW. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board Of Education may find appropriate.
- Maintain a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment
- Active Listening, Collaboration with stakeholders, creative problem solving, and good time management skills
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio LEP Standards.
- Implement classroom activities that support curriculum and student learning.
- Assist in establishing effective daily teacher schedules.
- Demonstrate flexible teaching: whole-group, small group, individual student and co-teaching.
- Monitor ELLs progress in English (reading, writing, listening and speaking), content-area classwork, attendance, and general school behavior.
- Administer assessments of language proficiency tests for ELLs, both initial and yearly standardized, and maintain all documentation thereof.
- Prepare and maintain all LEP Plans required for state documentation for ELLs on caseload.
- Show knowledge of a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations and use of those within the content-area classroom.
- Collaborate with content-area teachers to support ELLs’ academic success. Knowledge of co-teaching and relationship-building skills to support ELL student learning within the classroom.
- Promote collaboration and team-building. Builds rapport with staff and community.
- Assess the accomplishments of the ELL on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
