Overview

Our customer is seeking a Power Distribution Designer to support utility distribution design and pole loading analysis projects for a leading infrastructure customer. This role will be responsible for modelling overhead distribution facilities, performing pole loading and clearance analysis, supporting make-ready engineering activities, and developing construction-related documentation.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with utility distribution systems, pole loading software, and joint-use engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design overhead distribution facilities using DDS, O-Calc Pro, SPIDAcalc, Pole Foreman, or similar software.
  • Configure pole structures according to utility and client standards.
  • Model conductors, transformers, equipment, and joint-use attachments.
  • Perform pole loading analysis and clearance reviews.
  • Develop make-ready engineering solutions.
  • Prepare construction estimates and supporting documentation.
  • Support utility compliance and engineering review activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, field personnel, and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure designs meet NESC requirements, utility standards, and customer specifications.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Electrical Design, Utility Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of utility distribution design, telecom engineering, joint-use engineering, or pole loading analysis experience.
  • Experience using one or more of the following tools:

O-Calc Pro

SPIDAcalc

Pole Foreman

Katapult Pro

  • Understanding utility distribution systems and pole construction practices.
  • Knowledge of single-phase and three-phase power systems.
  • Familiarity with transformers, conductors, pole configurations, and joint-use attachments.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret utility standards and engineering requirements.
  • Eligibility to work for any U.S. employer without sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with DDS.
  • AutoCAD experience or certification.
  • GIS experience, including ArcGIS, mapping platforms, and Google Earth.
  • Familiarity with NESC standards.
  • Experience supporting utility construction projects.
  • Knowledge of surveying concepts and right-of-way considerations.
  • Primarily onsite office environment.
  • Typical working hours are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM with flexibility as business needs allow.
  • Collaborative team setting with close interaction between engineering, design, and project teams.
