NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries.

The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Director, Nursing
- Perioperative Services
- Full Time, Days. Provides clinical leadership and management of designated care areas on a twenty-four-hour basis, consistent with the philosophy, goals, and mission of NYU Langone Health. Assumes responsibility and accountability for all facets of nursing practice and performance within said designated areas, and for meeting all pertinent organizational goals and targets. Leads large scale organizational change efforts. Develops, fosters, and sustains an environment of excellence in patient/family service, staff growth and development, quality nursing care, and staff engagement and satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Fosters a culture embedded in NYU's tripartite mission: to serve, to teach, and to discover.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates programs for multiple nursing units or departments. Provides executive leadership to ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards and policies at the organizational, local, state, and federal level.
  • Collaborates with the interprofessional team, leading the nursing division to ensure excellence in quality, patient experience, and efficiency. Develops positive and productive relationships across disciplines to establish strategic partnerships to achieve shared goals.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of interdisciplinary outcome standards. Leads interdisciplinary quality and performance improvement projects pertinent to departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Fosters positive and productive work and care environments, founded in the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion to attract and retain staff. Demonstrates a steadfast commitment to engaging and meaningfully recognizing staff.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong professional growth and development.
  • Conducts interviews, hires, develops, and evaluates departmental leadership from orientation through termination, if necessary, according to established standards.
  • Evaluates the performance of personnel in a fair and transparent manner.
  • Serves as role model by demonstrating visibility, accessibility and effective communication that conveys a strong sense of advocacy and support for staff and leadership.
  • Establish a financial plan and utilize data to make strategic decisions. Design the operational and capital budgets for the service line(s) (salary and non-salary where applicable), in conjunction with the clinical leaders; monitors expenses as balanced with patient volume and other indicators; and evaluates outcomes, making modifications and adjustments as indicated.
  • Coordinates care delivery using labor productivity data to plan and evaluate staffing patterns, discharge and/or volume targets. Guides clinical leaders in planning and validation of staffing patterns.
  • Holds self and others accountable for the delivery of exemplary care in a cost-efficient manner.
