School Counselor

Provide individual, small-group and whole class counseling to support students' social, emotional, behavioral, and school-adjustment needs.

Serve as a liaison between the school, students, and families, particularly for multilingual families.

Facilitate communication with families to increase their understanding of school programs, procedures, expectations, and available supports.

Assist families in accessing school-based and community resources, including mental health, housing, food, medical, and other social services.

Support students experiencing attendance concerns and collaborate with families and school staff to identify and address barriers to regular attendance.

Conduct home outreach and home visits, when appropriate, to strengthen school-family partnerships and address student needs.

Participate in building-level student support teams, MTSS/RTI meetings, attendance meetings, and other problem-solving teams.

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, psychologists, counselors, nurses, and other staff to develop interventions for students experiencing social-emotional or behavioral difficulties.

Provide crisis intervention and support for students and families experiencing significant life events, trauma, grief, family disruption, or other circumstances affecting school functioning.

Assist with behavioral interventions, including identifying environmental or social-emotional factors that may be contributing to student behavior.

Provide consultation to teachers and staff regarding culturally and linguistically responsive approaches to supporting students and families.

Participate in CSE/504 meetings, when appropriate, and provide relevant social-emotional and family information to support educational planning.

Complete social histories, or other documentation as assigned and within the scope of the social worker's role.

Maintain appropriate case notes, records, referrals, and documentation in accordance with district procedures and applicable confidentiality requirements.

Make mandated reports and collaborate with appropriate agencies when there are concerns regarding student safety or welfare.

Develop relationships with community agencies and bilingual service providers to strengthen referral options for students and families.

Assist with parent workshops and family-engagement activities on topics such as attendance, social-emotional development, behavior, mental health, and navigating the school system.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal and/or Pupil Services/Special Education administration.
