Staff Accountant

Whitestone Associates, Inc., a 100% employee‑owned company and leading provider of environmental and geotechnical engineering and consulting services throughout the eastern U.S., is currently recruiting for a Staff Accountant to join our Warren, NJ office location. This is a tremendous opportunity for experienced candidates to join and contribute to the growth of a 100% employee‑owned engineering firm.

• Prepare and post monthly journal entries to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations, researching and resolving variances.
• Review billing, prepare accruals, and support month‑end close activities.
• Assist with the preparation of internal financial statements and management reports.
• Review invoices, expense reports, and credit card transactions in accordance with company policies.
• Set up new vendors and subcontractors, ensuring all required documentation is collected and verified (e.g., W‑9s, certificates of insurance, contracts, and other compliance materials).
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and support the month‑end and year‑end close process.
• Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed.
• Support year‑end audit requests and provide documentation to external auditors.
• Apply knowledge of lease accounting and fixed asset accounting to maintain accurate records and depreciation schedules.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
• Perform other accounting duties and projects as assigned by the CFO.
• This is an in‑office position based in our Warren, NJ office.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of 2+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles.
• Knowledge of lease accounting and fixed asset accounting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with Deltek Vision or Vantagepoint preferred).
• Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.

• The estimated annual compensation for this role is between $65,000-$80,000.
