Key Details

SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.

Hours: This position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year.

Minimum Hours for Interns: Interns would be required to work a minimum of 10 hours.

Internship Details

The Passaic Vicinage is accepting resumes for paid internship opportunities for Spring 2026, Summer 2026, and Fall 2026. The interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court. Interns may also assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry and look‑ups, filing, and making photocopies.

The interns will gain a broad insight and knowledge of the court system. Flexible schedules are available. The selected candidates will treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect.

Internships may be available for the following divisions:
Civil, Criminal, Criminal Pre‑Trial Services, Family, Ombudsman, and Operations. Please specify in your cover letter which division you are interested in, as well as any alternatives, and note the semester(s) you are available for an internship opportunity. Hours and days are flexible but must be between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing filings for judge and staff review, including document retrieval, and providing documents to chambers
  • Assisting with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails
  • Researching caseloads
  • Calendar management
  • Moderating virtual hearings
  • Assisting with client contact for newly assigned cases and reminders
  • Performing special projects
  • Conducting research and analysis
  • Performing computer related work
  • Collecting and entering data
  • Providing customer service
  • Drafting correspondences and memos
  • Attending community planning meetings
  • Assisting staff as directed
  • Following up with treatment providers and defendants
Qualifications

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Pre‑Trial Services (PTS) interns: 30 credit hours from an accredited college pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field.

All other interns: 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree.

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

Driver’s License: Applicant will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
