SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.

This position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year.

Interns would be required to work a minimum of 10 hours.

The Passaic Vicinage is accepting resumes for paid internship opportunities for Spring 2025, Summer
2025, and Fall 2025. The interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court.

Interns may also assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry and look‑ups, filing, and making photocopies. The interns will gain a broad insight and knowledge of the court system. Flexible schedules are available. The selected candidates will treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect.

Internships may be available for the following divisions:
Civil, Criminal, Criminal Pre‑Trial Services, Family, Ombudsman, and Operations.

Specify in your cover letter which division you are interested in, as well as any alternatives, and note the semester(s) you are available for an internship opportunity. Hours and Days are flexible but must be between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Examples of duties
  • Prepare filings for judge and staff review, including document retrieval, and providing documents to chambers
  • Assist with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails
  • Research caseloads
  • Calendar management
  • Moderate virtual hearings
  • Assist with client contact for newly assigned cases and reminders
  • Perform special projects
  • Conduct research and analysis
  • Perform computer related work
  • Collect and entering data
  • Provide customer service
  • Draft correspondences and memos
  • Attend community planning meetings
  • Assist staff as directed
  • Follow up with treatment providers and defendants
Qualifications

Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree.

Supplemental information

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
