The Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library is seeking a friendly, dependable, and service-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Library Assistant.
The Library Assistant works closely with library staff to provide excellent customer service, assist patrons with library resources and technology, maintain the organization and appearance of the collection, and support the day-to-day operations of the library.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with the public, is comfortable assisting people of varying ages and backgrounds, and can work both independently and as part of a team.
Library experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided to qualified candidates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide courteous and professional service to library patrons.
- Assist patrons at the circulation desk with checking materials in and out, renewals, holds, and other account-related questions.
- Register new patrons for library cards and assist with basic account issues.
- Answer basic reference and directional questions and refer more complex questions to appropriate library staff.
- Assist patrons with computers, printing, copying, scanning, and other basic technology needs.
- Sort, organize, and shelve books and other library materials.
- Maintain neat, orderly, and attractive shelves and public areas.
- Process returned materials and assist with book drop duties.
- Assist with library programs, events, displays, and special projects.
- Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the community.
- Follow established library policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Library Director or designated supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public and work cooperatively with library staff.
- Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn library technology and software.
- Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and follow established procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Previous library, customer service, office, or public-facing experience.
- Familiarity with public library services and procedures.
- Experience working with circulation or library management systems.
- Experience with the STELLA consortium or other shared library systems.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
This is a part-time position. The schedule will be determined based on the needs of the library and may include weekdays, evenings, and/or Saturdays.
Flexibility in scheduling is preferred.
