The Division of Economic Development is seeking a part-time Economic Development Intern to join our team. Under the direction of the Director of Economic Development, the Economic Development Intern will serve as a do-er and a thinker, while also supporting the day-to-day operations of the office through a combination of technical and administrative assistance. The ideal candidate will be a student interested in working on economic development projects who has a familiarity with Passaic County’s diverse business community.

- Providing administrative and technical assistance to support the day-to-day operations of the Division of Economic Development.
- Conducting market research, staying current on industry trends, and monitoring developments in Passaic County’s 16 municipalities.
- Supporting the administration and monitoring of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program including, but not limited to, project tracking, monitoring of deliverables, and labor compliance interviews (with Division staff).
- Researching best practices for interventions in and around commercial districts (e.g. storefront activation; public art – murals, sculpture, etc.; themed events)
- Serving as a representative of the Division of Economic Development at relevant meetings.
- Assisting with the development of marketing materials (digital and print), presentations, and speaking remarks.
- Working within and between county departments and divisions to advance county-wide strategic goals and objectives related to economic development.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office of Economic Development.
Education: Actively enrolled in an institution of higher education toward an Associate’s degree (or higher) in the social sciences, business, or a related field.
Experience: Ability to communicate both written and orally at an exceptional level in person, over the telephone and through other forms of electronic communication;
Must exhibit strong independent working skills with the ability to engage in collaborative work with minimal direction; but understands when to ask for help or guidance when making critical decisions;
Ability to exercise judgement and maintain highly confidential or sensitive information;
Proficient in office computer use, including Microsoft Office, email, and other computer applications;
Comfortability attending workday meetings with businesses, local officials, and other organizations as required.
Note: Preferred qualifications:
Current coursework in political science, sociology, business, marketing, communications, or a related field;
Understanding of the business community and economic environments of New Jersey;
Experience in program development or marketing;
Ability to attend evening or weekend meetings as required.
