The County of Passaic is seeking an experienced professional Architect to perform a full range of architectural activities involving the planning, design, documentation, and oversight of building and facilities projects.

Required Knowledge and Experience
  • Knowledge of architectural planning, design development, construction documentation, and project coordination.
  • Ability to monitor project progress and review work for technical adequacy, compliance with design requirements, schedules, costs, and applicable standards.
  • Experience with public-sector, institutional, commercial, or other large-scale building and facilities projects.
  • Experience managing or coordinating projects from preliminary concepts through design, construction documentation, bidding, and construction.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing project cost estimates and monitoring project schedules and budgets.
  • Experience coordinating architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and other technical disciplines.
  • Experience working directly with contractors, consulting architects and engineers, inspectors, estimators, local officials, and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience reviewing construction progress and completed work for compliance with plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, and applicable standards.
  • Proficiency in architecture design practices and relevant software tools
Examples of Work
  • Developing conceptual, tentative, and diagrammatic sketches and advancing them into complete working drawings.
  • Conducting field observations and preparing measured drawings documenting existing structural and architectural conditions.
  • Preparing preliminary and detailed project cost estimates based on project scope, functional requirements, and established cost data.
  • Integrating architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and other technical information into coordinated project documents.
  • Reviewing construction progress and monitoring adherence to project schedules, costs, design requirements, specifications, policies, and applicable standards.
  • Identifying and resolving architectural and construction-related problems using professional judgment, technical knowledge, and creativity.
  • Managing relationships and negotiating with contractors, consultants, public officials, and other professionals to resolve project issues and achieve project objectives.
  • Providing professional advice concerning architectural problems, policies, design alternatives, construction issues, and facility requirements.
  • Participating in meetings and conferences as a County representative and communicating project information and recommendations to appropriate staff.
  • Making professional recommendations and decisions necessary to move assigned projects from concept through completion.

This is a vacant position and the selected employee will serve a probationary period and must file a Civil Service Commission (CSC) application to be considered for permanent appointment.

Requirements:

Education:Graduation from accredited college/university with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture

Experience:5+ years of progressively responsible experience in architecture design, construction and project management

Note:New Jersey Registered Architect License preferred

License:Driver's license valid in NJ
