Position: Part-time Young Adult Librarian, New Milford Public Library (NJ)

Part-time Young Adult Librarian, New Milford Public Library (NJ) Position Summary

New Milford Public Library (New Jersey) is seeking a Part-time Young Adult Librarian who will expand Young Adult Services for young people ages 13-18. The position includes purchasing items for the young adult collection, implementing programming from the ground up, and managing the teen volunteer program. They are enthusiastic about working with teenagers and welcoming to teens. They will provide reference desk services primarily to adults, teens, and occasionally in the children’s department.

Overall, the position requires a collaborative team player with the ability to excite teens about library services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a regular schedule at the reference desk, answering questions across various levels of complexity in person, by email, and on the phone.
  • Instruct patrons in the use of library software, databases, and online services.
  • Collection development of the Young Adult collection, including:
    Fiction, Graphic Novels, Video Games, and other areas as assigned.
  • Develop a consistent Young Adult program schedule for ages 13-18.
  • Supervise Teen Volunteer program in collaboration with the Children’s Librarian to meet the needs of both departments.
  • Provide outreach services to New Milford Public Schools and other relevant groups.
  • Maintain accurate records of reference transactions, programming attendance, and other statistics as required.
  • Attend professional development trainings, stay informed of library trends, and BCCLS updates.
  • Works 18-24 hours per week, including one evening a week and one Saturday a month.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support the library’s mission and operations.
Qualifications
  • Master of Library Science
  • Experience working with young adults (ages 13-18) or demonstrated interest in working with the age group.
