Job Description
Teacher in Residence (TiR) – KIPP New Jersey has designed the Teacher in Residence program to help aspiring teachers gain hands‑on experience and the certification required to become excellent teachers at KIPP’s world‑class schools. As a TiR, you will fuse theory and practice while earning your teaching certification over a two‑year period.
Responsibilities- Work closely with an experienced lead classroom teacher to create lesson plans, teach, reflect on lessons, and assess and collect data to inform instruction.
- Build positive relationships with students and families to become part of your school community.
- Provide small‑group instruction.
- Assist with diagnostic and progress monitoring testing across the school.
- Communicate consistently with families about student progress.
- Attend and actively participate in professional development opportunities to support continuous growth.

- Ability to obtain a New Jersey state teaching certification and pass the state licensure exam.
- Some experience working with children.
- Hold a valid teaching certification in NJ –or– meet the GPA requirement.
- If you graduated after September 2016:
- Have a bachelor’s or master’s GPA of 3.0 or higher –or–
- Have a bachelor’s or master’s GPA between 2.75 and 3.0 and demonstrate that you have passed all required Praxis exams with a +10% passing score (super scores).
- If you graduated before September 2016:
- Have a bachelor’s or master’s GPA of 2.75 or higher.
Competitive salary: $50,000 in year 1 for Teacher in Residence positions in Newark, increasing to $55,000 in year 2.
