Position Overview
College Achieve Public Schools is seeking a visionary and collaborative Mathematics Department Chairperson (Grades 9-12) to lead the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of the secondary mathematics program. The ideal candidate possesses strong instructional leadership skills, deep content expertise, and a commitment to improving student achievement through high-quality curriculum, data-driven instruction, and professional learning. This leadership position includes teaching responsibilities and the supervision, coaching, and development of mathematics instructional staff.
The Mathematics Department Chairperson serves as a key member of the school's instructional leadership team and works closely with school and network leaders to ensure consistent implementation of curriculum and instructional best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the Grades 9-12 mathematics curriculum aligned to New Jersey Student Learning Standards
- Support curriculum revisions and the integration of instructional technology, assessments, and instructional resources
- Analyze student achievement data and support teachers in using data to inform instruction, intervention, and enrichment
- Lead the review of school-wide mathematics assessment results and develop action plans to improve student outcomes
- Teach one to three mathematics classes to model instructional excellence and maintain direct classroom engagement
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate mathematics instructional staff in accordance with AchieveNJ requirements and school expectations
- Facilitate regular department meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and collaborative planning sessions
- Design and deliver professional development aligned with school and network instructional priorities
- Create, curate, and disseminate instructional resources, pacing guides, assessments, and best practices
- Foster teacher leadership by providing opportunities for staff to lead professional learning, curriculum initiatives, and collaborative projects
- Collaborate with school leaders, instructional coaches, and content specialists to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment
- Make recommendations regarding course offerings, student placement, intervention programs, and instructional supports
- Partner with the Network Director of Mathematics to ensure consistency of curriculum implementation, instructional practices, and assessment systems across campuses
- Lead or co-facilitate network-wide mathematics professional development and instructional initiatives
- Support the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and mentoring of mathematics instructional staff
- Assist with department budgeting, resource allocation, and instructional materials selection
- Recommend professional learning opportunities, conferences, and workshops to support staff growth
- Represent the mathematics department during family engagement events, school presentations, and community meetings
Required Qualifications
- Valid New Jersey Supervisor, Principal, School Administrator Certificate, or Certificate of Eligibility
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in mathematics
- Demonstrated success in instructional leadership, coaching, curriculum development, or department-level leadership
- Strong knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards, curriculum design, assessment practices, and instructional best practices in mathematics
- Experience analyzing and using student achievement data to improve instructional outcomes
- Experience planning and facilitating professional development for educators
- Strong commitment to educational equity and student achievement
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Valid New Jersey driver's license
- Must pass a criminal history background check
