Position Overview

This position will be responsible for supporting clinical mental health graduate students in identifying and securing clinical experiences for practicum and internship as well as supporting apprenticeship students. This involves building a robust network of clinical sites both within and outside of the state of New Jersey by positively representing the Department with our partners. As the primary support for field-placed students, the Clinical Coordinator must provide a nurturing and positive presence and have exceptional organizational skills.

Because clinical experiences occur year round during the fall, spring, and summer terms, the clinical coordinator must be a disciplined professional capable of maintaining high standards of coordination in a virtual environment.

Essential work includes:

- The Clinical Coordinator will coordinate all clinical experiences and respond to all inquiries from students, faculty, administrators, and external professionals regarding the clinical program.

- Overseeing ongoing, systematic CACREP assessments, curricular evaluation, and program improvement efforts within the department to be included in the CACREP annual report as it related to student clinical experiences.

- Monitoring apprenticeship progress and communicating with apprenticeship partners.

Responsibilities Clinical Coordinator functions
  • Mentors students to help find their practicum/internship sites immediately upon enrollment in the program
  • Recruits potential sites to accept interns, both in NJ and nationally.
  • Supervises student progress in practicum, internship, and apprenticeship through oversight of the Supervision Assist platform.
  • Manages all site affiliation agreement contracts related to field placements (including apprenticeships)
  • Answers inquiries from potential apprenticeship and internship sites.
Apprenticeship functions
  • Assists with monitoring the apprenticeship data, this includes sending out forms to supervisors, monitoring completion requirements, and reporting.
  • Ensures timely submission of progress reports to apprenticeship partners.
Clinical Coordinator functions
  • Hosts 2-3 clinical Practicum orientations each year to introduce students who will soon be eligible to start their clinical experience to the requirements associated with starting their Practicum and with completing the paperwork necessary to select their site.
  • Schedules and oversees the pre-practicum skills assessment of students, coordinates related hiring.
  • Provides or coordinates a minimum of two continuing education opportunities to site supervisors per term.
  • Maintains the Clinical Manual, including the development of revisions associated with changes in the codes of ethics, accreditation standards and legislation relevant to the profession and each potential license for our students.
  • Oversees ongoing, systematic CACREP assessments and accreditation report writing as related to clinical experiences. Prepares for and writes the sections of the CACREP-accreditation reports pertaining to the clinical experiences of our students in both Practicum and Internship.
Qualifications Required
  • A Masters-degree in counseling or related field from an accredited higher education institution.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in clinical mental health counseling.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management or coordination, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and adhere to institutional and department deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Skilled at networking and building relationships with organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management or coordination and ability to implement efficient organizational systems. Very strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member. At times the work is fast-paced and requires tight deadlines. The position requires an individual who can handle this type of high-intensity work environment and work in a collegial and calm manner while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, and grace in handling and managing sensitive student and faculty issues.
