As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring geotechnical hazards are identified through geotechnical data collection, monitoring, and analysis, to ensure a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to the following:
Technical- Implement and adhere to the geotechnical management framework for Telfer Underground.
- Complete inspections and ensure the safety of mine infrastructure.
- Monitor the geotechnical QAQC systems for non-compliance and rectify any issues.
- Complete stope notes and geotechnical reconciliations.
- Review and approve development designs.
- Monitor the seismic and deformation monitoring systems.
- Utilise and apply relevant software packages as needed.
- Monitor the interaction or the underground operation with the Open Pit and cave pipe.
- Driving continuous improvement, focused on value and cost reduction.
- Complete Paste Fill notes, paste barricade plans, and other plans/investigations to facilitate or review paste backfill operations.
- Review monitoring data and report on adverse findings as per monitoring management plan and risk assessment requirements.
- Identify and escalate situations where mining plans do not adhere to the technical management plan framework or are high risk and require additional risk assessment and controls. Escalate these issues to the Underground Manager or alternate.
- Create rehabilitation plans to address poor performance or damage to ground support.
- Issue Non-conformance reports for any non-compliant ground support installed.
- Monitoring progress of, scheduling, and providing input regarding existing or upcoming rehabilitation plans or Geotechnical requirements.
- Supply geotechnical inputs into the weekly mine planning schedule.
- Schedule ground support audits to meet targets outlined in QAQC management plan.
- Bachelor degree of Mining Engineering / Geology / Civil Engineering
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar underground related role
Telfer is a long-life gold-copper mine in the Paterson Province of Western Australia’s East Pilbara region. The operation includes both open-pit and underground mining and Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since commencing production in 1975, Telfer has produced over 15 million ounces of gold. The site operates on a fly-in fly-out basis and offers a wide range of onsite recreational facilities to support workforce wellbeing.
