Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior mechanical engineer in the Engineering Design Branch working independently.
- Serve as the subject matter expert and consultant services both in-house and outside the installation on mechanical codes, regulations, and building and facility matters.
- Provide expert mechanical engineering advisory services to the Garrison Commander.
- Prepare, review, and approve mechanical engineering features of management plans and documents critical to emergency planning.
- Review inspections and reports and provide or approve responses to mechanical engineering issues.
- Oversee, mentor, and provide technical assistance to other architects and engineers in solving difficult technical problems.
- Perform advanced professional work of marked difficulty within functional areas of investigation.
- Represent the Engineering Division in meetings and conferences with other organizations and contractors.
- Attend conferences and serve as an expert in mechanical engineering design.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination completed by a background investigation.
- Position requires pre‑employment financial statement OGE Form 450 disclosure and annual review per DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
- Appointment subject to a one‑year probationary period unless prior requirements met.
- Position requires a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel of 25% of the time.
- Incumbent must possess or obtain a valid state Driver’s License to operate vehicles.
- Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
- Public Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 278) or Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 450) required upon entry and annually thereafter.
Basic Requirement for Mechanical Engineer
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or a program meeting the rigorous discipline criteria listed.
Combination of Education and Experience
- Professional registration or licensure as EI, EIT, or PE.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam or equivalent written test.
- At least 60 semester hours of required courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences.
- Related curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field with at least one year of professional engineering experience.
Specialized Experience
- One year of specialized mechanical‑engineering experience related to HVAC planning, design, rehabilitation, and system review.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
- One‑year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Selection subject to restrictions from Department of Defense referral system.
- Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized.
- Advanced in‑hire, recruitment incentives, relocation incentives, and student loan repayment may be authorized.
