Job Description System Administration Support
- Assist with day-to-day UNIX/Linux administration activities while meeting defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Support installation, configuration, maintenance, and patching of UNIX/Linux servers under supervision.
- Perform routine system health checks and basic preventive maintenance activities.
- Assist with server migration, upgrade, and deployment activities.
- Handle assigned incidents, service requests, and operational tickets.
- Perform initial troubleshooting of operating system, application, and hardware-related issues.
- Escalate complex issues to senior engineers as required.
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) activities and documentation.
- Monitor server health, performance, availability, and capacity.
- Respond to alerts and perform first-level operational support.
- Assist in maintaining uptime and system reliability according to business requirements.
- Support backup, restoration, and disaster recovery activities following defined procedures.
- Assist with security patch implementation and vulnerability remediation activities.
- Support system hardening efforts and compliance audits.
- Follow organizational security policies and operational standards.
- Help maintain user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
- Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and operational guidelines.
- Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, incidents, and changes.
- Participate in change management activities following ITIL processes.
- Contribute to knowledge management and process improvement initiatives.
- Work with infrastructure, storage, network, application, and security teams.
- Coordinate with vendors and support teams when necessary.
- Participate in training programs, mentoring sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Develop technical skills required for progression to higher-level administration roles.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant certifications or technical training may be considered in lieu of experience.
- 0-2 years of experience in UNIX/Linux administration, technical support, infrastructure operations, or related areas.
- Fresh graduates with strong academic foundations and Linux exposure are encouraged to apply.
- Basic understanding of UNIX/Linux operating systems (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE, AIX, Solaris, or similar).
- Knowledge of server installation and configuration concepts.
- Understanding of user, group, and permission management.
- Familiarity with patching and package management fundamentals.
- Basic understanding of file systems and logical volume management concepts.
- Knowledge of backup and restoration procedures.
- Understanding of system performance monitoring fundamentals.
- Introductory shell scripting knowledge for basic automation tasks.
- Awareness of security principles and system hardening practices.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including DNS, TCP/IP, SSH, and NFS.
- Exposure to SAN and NAS storage environments.
- Theoretical or practical knowledge of LDAP and NIS.
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools.
- Exposure to virtualization platforms such as VMware.
- Understanding of cloud technologies and infrastructure concepts.
- Knowledge of ITIL framework and service management processes.
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible or similar technologies.
