Assistant Recreation Manager – East Brunswick Ice Arena
The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for a full‑time Assistant Recreation Manager – East Brunswick Ice Arena within the Department of Recreation & Parks. This role will support the General Manager in day‑to‑day operations and play a critical leadership role in the daily operations and programming of the East Brunswick Ice Arena. The position will oversee front‑of‑house operations, customer service functions, financial controls, and recreation/event/program support while working collaboratively with the Operation and Program leads.
The goal of this position is to create and maintain a professional, first‑class service department while ensuring operational excellence and strong staff leadership.
- Overseeing daily entrance operations, admissions, skate rentals, locker room key control, and customer flow.
- Supervising full‑time and part‑time staff through hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Overseeing financial closeouts, deposits, purchasing, vendor coordination, facility access systems, and in‑arena communications.
- Providing leadership coverage during peak programming, events, and emergencies, and assuming operational responsibility in the absence of the General Manager.
- Assisting with the management of POS system and program management software.
- Managing arena access cards and Everbridge alerts as needed & coordinating locker room key control in collaboration with programming staff.
- Delivering prompt and professional solutions to in‑person, phone, and email inquiries.
- Providing comprehensive facility tours and maintaining strong public presence.

- Ability to lead a large part‑time staff in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to perform with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong organizational and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficient in POS systems, Microsoft Suite, and software management.
- Experience supervising customer service or recreation staff preferred.
- Experience in a recreation facility, sports venue, or high‑volume public environment preferred.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation/Sports Management, Business, Education, Public Administration, or related field preferred but not required. - Certified Ice Rink Administrator (or ability to obtain) preferred.
- Valid NJ driver’s license.
- Certified Ice Rink Administrator through the US Ice Rink Association and/or ability to obtain.
- Membership in the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association and the Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification is preferred (or ability to maintain).
- Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR/AED is preferred.
