Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Job Title: Environment, Health, Safety (EHS) & Sustainability Officer
Job SummaryThis position is responsible for overseeing and enforcing health, safety, food safety, and environmental regulations in the facility. The Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability Officer ensures that facility is in compliance with OSHA rules and regulations as well as all Federal and State Environmental rules and regulations. This person will gather, interpret, and report data related to safety, environment, sustainability, and ensure compliance with national, state and local laws.
Additionally, this position will assist the quality function with ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 inspections and auditing. There may be additional quality tasks in regard to recordkeeping, and continual improvement tasks.
- Develop and implement EHS & Sustainability policies and procedures aligned with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Formulate, write, and implement new processes as required.
- Support sustainability compliance with proper documentation and data.
- Assists in calculation of carbon accounting through sustainability software - scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3 carbon footprint.
- Develop and deliver adequate and appropriate safety, and regulatory training for personnel, including OSHA required programs.
- Conduct Safety and Food Safety inspections and audits. Evaluate compliance in accordance with local, state, federal regulations, as well as our GMPs, SOPs, WIs, and other documentation related to our QMS (ISO 9001) and FQMS (ISO 22000).
- Assists with environmental audits and inspections, as needed.
- Inspect premises and staff to identify hazards and non-conformities. Revise strategic plans to remedy identified issues.
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
- Document any deviations from documented quality processes.
- Coordinate on a timely-manner equipment safety inspections as required by OSHA’s regulations.
- Investigate accident/ incidents and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain up to date all required EHS documentation and data, including the Safety Software.
- Assists in completing any corporate, supplier, or customer’s EHS, Sustainability, and Quality surveys.
- Assist in quality inspections and possible testing of materials
- Depending on findings/results, formulate improvement plans.
- Assist in food safety inspections and audits, as needed.
- Other duties, as determined by the Sr. EHS Manager and as required.
- Primary Shift – Office Hours – 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- This position will require flexibility to cover 6 to 8 hours on the off shifts.
- Safety & Sustainability Tasks +/- 90% of time.
- Quality/Production Tasks - +/- 10% of time.
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Manufacturing Science, Engineering, Health and Safety or related discipline; OR 1-3 years of experience in a related field or position.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to learn new computer applications easily.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must demonstrate strong leadership skills with strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead, present and work successfully with a team-based environment.
- Knowledge of OSHA and EPA guidelines, any exposure to these disciplines is a plus.
- Knowledge of Sustainability and GHG Emissions reporting.
- Experience performing job safety analysis and implementing behavioral-based safety best practices.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Prefer experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading, implementing, and standardizing EHS programs.
- Experience/ knowledge in sustainability best practices.
Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000
Total Compensation: Base Salary, Performance Bonus*, Profit Sharing*
