Overview
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (Rutgers University) is hiring a Seasonal Marine Field Worker for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory, located in Port Norris, New Jersey. This temporary, hourly position supports oyster fishery monitoring, laboratory processing, data entry, and additional research projects in a maritime field environment.
Responsibilities- Assist with monitoring of the Delaware Bay oyster fishery.
- Collect field samples aboard research and commercial fishing vessels and process laboratory samples (measuring, shucking, and analyzing oyster disease/pathology).
- Perform data entry and audit tasks associated with sample collection and analysis.
- Provide additional support to research projects, including animal care, video analysis, and Living Shoreline installation.
- Minimum high school/vocational school education or equivalent experience.
- Computer knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail in completing data sheets.
- Ability to work in potentially adverse weather conditions and lift over 50 lbs.
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and interest in biology or scientific/technical laboratory training or research experience.

Hourly pay ranges from $15.92 to $18.00, depending on qualifications, experience, and department or grant funding.
