Job SummaryResponsible for managing all employees and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing and support.
Duties and Essential Functions- Recruit, select and retain qualified employees; ensure proper staffing.
- Provide training, conduct performance evaluations, and address gaps up to termination.
- Recommend employee pay and advancement.
- Communicate performance, conduct and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events.
- Open and close store at least twice per week personally.
- Identify business trends and control opportunities from operating statements.
- Ensure in-stock targets, review ordering plan and inventory weekly; follow up on Basic Stock Replenishment and cycle counts.
- Stage, stock and store merchandise following company work processes.
- Present merchandise according to practices; use fixtures properly.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels with controls.
- Ensure financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control and cash procedures.
- Lead superior customer service and store cleanliness.
- Equip store with necessary tools.
- Follow policies, handbook and SOP manual; ensure compliance.
- Complete paperwork and documentation on time.
- Read and interpret documents and safety rules.
- Perform mathematical calculations.
- Know cash handling, cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Perform IBM cash register functions.
- Know inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Communicate effectively orally and written.
- Interact with interpersonal skills.
- Know recruiting, hiring, counseling and termination practices.
- Know cash, facility and safety control policies.
- Organize with attention to detail.
- Solve problems and handle varied situations.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred for some locations.
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- One year of retail management experience preferred.
- Align values with Dollar General values.
- Support ownership and tap potential of others.
- Liaise between corporate office and store employees.
- Foster cooperation and collaboration.
- Interact with staff tactfully and directly; maintain open forum.
- Demonstrate responsiveness to customer needs.
- Apply basic principles of retail (ordering cycles, inventories, flow).
- Continue staff development.
- Recruit, hire and train qualified applicants.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and company policies.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and handling merchandise.
- Lift up to 40 pounds; occasional up to 55 pounds; climb using ladder.
- Drive or provide own transportation for deposits and meetings.
- Fast‑paced environment; moderate noise; occasional weather exposure.
