Job SummaryAs a Sorter at RWB Thrift, you play a crucial role in the initial sorting and categorization of donated items. Your responsibilities include efficiently processing incoming donations, sorting items into designated categories such as clothing, textiles, accessories, household goods, and electronics. You will ensure that items meet quality standards and are prepared for further processing or distribution to various departments within the thrift store.
Your attention to detail, ability to work efficiently in a team environment, and commitment to maintaining quality standards contribute directly to the operational efficiency and customer satisfaction at RWB Thrift.
- Sort and categorize donated items according to established guidelines and categories.
- Inspect items for quality, cleanliness, and suitability for sale.
- Ensure items are properly prepared and distributed to appropriate departments or processing areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in sorting areas and workstations.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve production targets and maintain workflow efficiency.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in other tasks within the sorting and processing areas as needed.
- Contribute to a positive work environment through teamwork and effective communication.
- Previous experience in sorting, warehouse, or retail environment preferred.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Can safely perform essential job functions, meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity requirements.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 70 lbs and frequently exert up to 25 lbs of force.
- Can stand for extended periods of time.
- Proficient in repetitive hand/arm movements and manual dexterity.
- Fine motor skills for tasks such as holding, grasping, and turning objects.
- Maintain balance and agility to prevent falling and to work on uneven surfaces.
- Visual acuity of 20/20 at 20 inches or less and at 20 feet or more.
- Dynamic, busy atmosphere requiring the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced setting.
- Noisy environment due to sales floor and production area; ability to work effectively in noise.
- Bright lighting throughout the store; ability to perform in bright conditions.
- Regular interactions with customers, donors, and coworkers; effective communication is required.
- High flexibility; may be asked to switch tasks or departments as needed.
While the position does not require exclusive use of English, employees may need to understand written and spoken English for instructions and to communicate with customers and supervisors who primarily use English.
