The Facilities Services Division manages building operations and maintenance, custodial services, tenant improvements, major renovations, and new construction at more than 80 City facilities, totaling 2.1 million square feet.

What you will do:The Facility Maintenance Technician I performs a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance, such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, preventive maintenance, tenant improvements, fencing, concrete, and pressure washing. Assignments may include working side-by-side with other maintenance personnel, working independently, or leading a team of vendors or contractors to accomplish tasks safely and efficiently. Assignments are tracked through a computerized maintenance management system.
Additionalinformation on job responsibilities:
- Assist with the installation, inspection, and maintenance of Fire, Life, and Safety systems, including fire alarms, fire sprinklers, and fire extinguishers.
- Perform installation, repair, and maintenance of hardware systems, including doors, locks, and overhead doors.
- Physical Requirements:
lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects with or without accommodation. Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing 2 hours or more, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, manual dexterity, grasping and repetitive motions with or without accommodation. Work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, as well as entering small, confined spaces. - Perform other essential duties as assigned.

- Position schedule is Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., or a four-day workweek with 10-hour days from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

- Must pass the pre-employment background check and job fitness assessment.
- Must have an Oregon Driver license and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
- High school diploma or GED, and two years of experience in maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities, including experience in the carpentry, painting, construction trades including some lead responsibilities, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
- Depending on area of assignment, may be required to pass a criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance and Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment).

- Two years of trade school or college level training in building maintenance, construction, or grounds maintenance preferred.
