Mobile Diesel Technician II – DOT Management (Individual Contributor) – Flexible Work Option (remote possible but must reside in the designated city, state, or region). 100% travel required. Pay: $29.42–$44.13/hr plus potential incentives and a $3,500 New Hire Bonus split 50% after 30 days and 50% after 180 days.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Carry out minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical/right braking and cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck systems using test instruments such as handheld computers, pressure gauges, and diagnostic tools.
- Road‑test vehicles to confirm repairs and overall performance.
- Evaluate problems, generate and assess solutions, and determine the most accurate diagnosis.
- Manage parts inventory, equipment on the company‑issued service truck, and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain, safe‑check, and conduct pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of the service vehicle.
- Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, resolve issues, and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time efficiently.
- Utilize hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work in Repair Orders (RO) via the proprietary TRAIT iOS application, including photos, parts used, and findings.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all required documentation promptly.
- Operate independently, managing daily schedule and maintaining high productivity levels.
- Source parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Coordinate with management and support teams via email or phone for repair estimates and order approvals.
- Adhere to safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Continuously maintain and perform safety checks on the service truck.
- High School Diploma or GED plus at least 3 years of related experience (or equivalent education with 5 years of experience).
- Must be 21 years or older, possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Ability to pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background check and DOT physical (or a valid DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining).
- Current and valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining or a scheduled DOT physical.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of automotive systems.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for prolonged periods, and perform moderately heavy labor.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- ASE T8 (PMI)
- Additional ASE certifications preferred: T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), 608/609 (Emission control).
- Problem‑solving, decision‑making, and logical reasoning.
- Proficient in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Knowledge of new diagnostic tools and technologies.
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools, precision instruments, and diesel equipment.
- Effective two‑way communication with team members and customers.
- Judgment in selecting appropriate tools and equipment.
