Water Operator in Training / Operator I / Operator II – City of Patterson Public Works Department
Full‑time Water Operator in Training, Operator I or Operator II position in the City of Patterson’s Public Works Department. Duties include the following:
- Inspecting and repairing water meters and water service lines.
- Monitoring and recording meter readings of water consumption levels.
- Testing backflow protection devices and performing related adjustments as needed.
- Collecting and transporting water samples for lab analysis.
- Conducting bacteriological testing and monitoring chlorine levels.
- Coordinating and monitoring construction and improvement projects.
- Inventory and ordering parts.
- Programming pump stations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Any additional recent training, or academic courses and certification programs relevant to this job classification is desirable.
Experience:
- Water Operator in Training: Six months of experience in mechanical maintenance, underground construction, or the building trades.
- Water Operator I: One (1) year of water distribution or treatment operation and maintenance experience equivalent to the Water Operator In Training classification with the City of Patterson.
- Water Operator II: Two (2) years of water distribution or water treatment operation and maintenance experience.
General requirement: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment.
Water Operator in Training: The ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class B license prior to the completion of the probationary period.
Water Operator I: Possession of a valid California Class B license within one year of appointment.
Possession of a Grade I Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
Possession of a Grade I Water Treatment Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
Water Operator II: Possession of a valid California Class B license within one year of appointment.
Possession of a Grade II Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
Possession of a Grade II Water Treatment Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
