Position Summary:This position supports the YMCA, a leading nonprofit dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the Early Childhood Director or Ed Coordinator, the Lead Teacher oversees the operation of the assigned classroom, ensuring standards align with Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS).
Essential Functions:Establish a warm, professional rapport with children and families.Maintain health and safety standards.Comply with RI State PK Performance Standards.Complete assessments, screenings, and documentation in Teaching Strategies Gold Online as per timeline.Develop developmentally appropriate, standards-based curriculum promoting social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth, using RIELDS, Boston Public School Curriculum, and other guidance.Maintain accurate attendance, activity, and meal records using Pro Care (CACFP).Ensure classroom cleanliness.Greet families and children appropriately.Support the Teacher Assistant in daily planning and support.Support social-emotional development using Conscious Discipline strategies.Design classroom arrangements supporting developmental goals, using ECERS-3 as a guide.Observe and document individual child progress for instruction and communicate with families.Submit lesson plans and newsletters as scheduled.Supervise children actively, especially during transitions and in bathrooms/playground.Familiarity with DHS licensing regulations and Family Handbook.Develop annual Professional Development Plan aligned with RI Workforce Competencies, including 20 hours of training.Participate in staff trainings, meetings, and other mandatory events.Perform additional duties or coverage as assigned.Participate in classroom observations and improvement planning throughout the year.Expectations:
Participate in 4 Family Engagement Activities and lead one.Attend scheduled meetings, including Family Advisory Meetings.Work during the 180 days children are in the classroom, unless sick.Schedule and communicate personal absences in advance.Work remotely on Heritage Park building closure days as instructed.Work 40 hours weekly, arriving at least 30 minutes before class start.Qualifications:The Lead Teacher shall have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited college. RI PK-2 Teaching Certification is preferred. Must be at least 21 years old, able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 3 months, and begin or obtain RIELDS certification within 3 months. Must meet DHS and YMCA employment qualifications.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Ability to walk, stand, sit for long periods, lift children up to 50 pounds, and carry supplies up to 20 pounds. Must communicate effectively and respond swiftly in emergencies. Accommodations can be made for disabilities.
