Blackstone Academy Charter School – Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The position begins on Aug 25, 2026.
Job DescriptionBlackstone Academy Charter School is a dynamic educational setting that strives to meet the needs of all learners while creating an exciting, collegial atmosphere where teachers can grow as leaders. As a staff, we are committed to supporting teachers in both individual and professional development and have embarked on a deep exploration of equity and privilege across both our staff and school.
Depending on the candidate, the role may be part‑time – teaching two sections of 9th‑grade biology – or closer to full time if the teacher has an interest in additional duties in 2026‑27. For the 2026‑27 academic year we seek a talented educator to fill a part‑time biology teaching position. The role could become full time if the teacher is interested in teaching two sections of wellness/health, advising, or teaching a community improvement project (see below).
Our public charter high school serves 350 students from Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Providence admitted through a blind lottery. The campus is diverse and challenges students to excel in a rigorous, supportive environment. Candidates should be comfortable developing curricula, working closely with colleagues, and have a strong understanding of the relevant Common Core State Standards and NGSS. As an Essential School, applicants should be familiar with the Coalition of Essential Schools philosophy and guiding principles.
Faculty and staff integrate social‑emotional learning into the curriculum, so applicants should have a firm understanding and appreciation of its importance.
In addition to the teaching load, this teacher may also serve as an advisor. Our robust advisory system is central to the program; advisories meet twice daily and the advisor guides advisees and parents through course requirements and portfolio development. The advisor helps students stay on track to graduate and develop social‑emotional skills for success in their chosen paths.
Finally, the teacher may instruct a signature Community Improvement Project (CIP). CIPs are project‑based learning activities at the heart of the school’s approach to applying learned skills to resolve local community problems. CIPs are graduation‑required and teachers receive extensive support in developing and running them.
