High School Biology Teacher

Blackstone Academy Charter School - Pawtucket, Rhode Island

Blackstone Academy Charter School in Pawtucket, RI is a dynamic educational setting which strives to meet the needs of all of its learners while creating an exciting, collegial atmosphere where teachers can grow as leaders. As a staff, we are committed to supporting teachers in both individual and professional development, and have embarked on a deep exploration of equity and privilege across both our staff and school.

Depending on the candidate, the position could be part time, teaching 2 sections of 9th grade Biology or closer to full time, if the candidate is interested in assuming some other teaching duties that are available in 26-27. For the 2026-27 academic year, we are seeking a talented educator to fill a part-time Biology teaching position. This position requires a Rhode Island secondary certification, or eligibility to acquire it.

In addition, the role could approach full time if the Biology teacher has an interest in teaching two sections of Wellness/Health (utilizing an existing curriculum) and/or if the candidate is interested in taking on an advisory and/or teach a Community Improvement Project. Our public charter high school serves 350 students from three cities, Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Providence, RI who are admitted through a blind lottery.

Our school is incredibly diverse, and students are challenged to excel in our rigorous and supportive environment. Candidates should be seeking a position in a collaborative, innovative educational environment focused on college preparation and community improvement. They should be comfortable developing curricula, working closely with colleagues, and should have a strong understanding of all the relevant Common Core State Standards and NGSS.

As Blackstone Academy is an Essential School, applicants should be familiar with the Coalition of Essential Schools philosophy and guiding principles. Blackstone's faculty and staff consciously integrate social-emotional learning into the curriculum so applicants should have a firm understanding of the importance and power of social-emotional learning. In addition to managing the teaching load, this teacher may also be an advisor.

Blackstone's robust advisory system is a central component of our program. Advisories meet twice daily and the advisor is the primary guide for advisees/parents through our course requirements and portfolio system. The Blackstone advisor helps students stay on track to graduate and develop the important social emotional skills necessary to succeed in whatever their chosen path. Finally, this teacher may instruct one of our signature Community Improvement Projects (CIPs).

CIPs are the project-based learning activities that are at the heart of the school's approach to applying learned skills to the resolution of local community problems. CIPs are graduation-required, and teachers get a great deal of support in developing and running CIPs, as they are unique to our school. Competitive salary commensurate with years of experience. Interested applicants should identify themselves to Kyleen Carpenter, Head of School.

Blackstone is an EOE and we strongly encourage applications from a diverse candidate pool. Our teachers must be committed to understanding and working with a diverse student body, as many of our families are recent immigrants from around the globe. In addition, we primarily serve low-income families, so all candidates must possess an awareness of how poverty can impact families and students, and candidates must be ready to work to eliminate the educational inequities that a poverty background might create.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates should be available for 3 days of summer meetings on July 13, 14, and 15, 2026, and for the week before school starts in late August (beginning around August 25th)
  • At least 5 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
