For the 2026‑27 academic year, we are seeking an experienced and talented educator to fill a PART or FULL‑time MLL teaching/coordination position. This position requires a Rhode Island secondary MLL or ESOL certification, or eligibility to acquire it.

Our public charter high school serves 350 students from Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Providence, RI, who are admitted through a blind lottery. Our school is incredibly diverse, and students are challenged to excel in our rigorous and supportive environment. Candidates should be seeking a collaborative, innovative educational environment focused on college preparation and community improvement. They should be comfortable developing curricula and integrating our High Quality Curriculum (HMH Into Math/Lit), working closely with colleagues, and should have a strong understanding of all relevant Common Core State Standards.

As Blackstone Academy is an Essential School, applicants should be familiar with the Coalition of Essential Schools philosophy and guiding principles. Blackstone’s faculty and staff consciously integrate social‑emotional learning into the curriculum so applicants should have a firm understanding of its importance.

The candidate hired for this role will be responsible for coordinating the MLL programming at our school. Duties will include:

• Providing the required services and supports for our approximately 80 MLLs, whose skill levels range from newcomers to monitor status.
• Maintaining and updating the RIDE MLL census.
• Administering ACCESS testing.
• Supporting teachers of MLLs with strategies and professional development.
• Assisting Blackstone Academy administrators to ensure compliance with the forthcoming 2030‑31 Rhode Island MLL regulations.

In addition to MLL teaching/coordination, this teacher may also serve as an advisor, depending on the needs of the school and the interest of the candidate. Advisories meet twice daily and the advisor is the primary guide for advisees and parents through our course requirements and portfolio system. The Blackstone advisor helps students stay on track to graduate and develop the important social‑emotional skills necessary to succeed in their chosen paths.
