Job DescriptionThe Pawtucket School Department is seeking a school art teacher. Under the direction of the school administrator, the classroom teacher will implement the art education curriculum.
Position Summary:
Instruct students in art, such as: different media, techniques, and subject matter, integration of art with other subjects, and reflections of their work. Prepares lesson plans and establishes course goals based on National Visual Art GSE's and the Common Core Standards for Literacy and Math. Selects book and art supplies for courses. Demonstrates new methods and procedures to students. Observes and evaluates students' work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
May plan and accompany students on field trips. May teach students with disabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and –in harmony with the goals—establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. May identify learning disabilities of students, seeking the assistance of district specialist as required. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. May confer with other teachers regarding art needs/projects based on teacher instructional method. May perform other duties as requested by the Principal or his/her designee. Licensure/ Certificate Requirements:
The position requires a valid RI Certification in Art, Grades - PK-12. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university Desirable
Qualifications:
Minimum of two years teaching experience Compensation/Hours/Benefits:
Full PSD benefits package; 184-day contract Salary range is dependent on step level and degree attainment level
