position: art teacher
location: pawtucket school department – jenks middle school, pawtucket, rhode island

responsibilities
  • instruct students in art, including different media, techniques, and subject matter; integrate art with other subjects and facilitate reflections on student work.
  • prepare lesson plans and establish course goals based on national visual arts gses and common core standards for literacy and math.
  • select books and art supplies for courses.
  • demonstrate new methods and procedures to students.
  • observe and evaluate students’ work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement.
  • plan and accompany students on field trips when appropriate.
  • teach students with disabilities as needed.
  • meet and instruct assigned classes at scheduled times and locations.
  • plan a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interest.
  • prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon supervisor’s request.
  • encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical limitations of the classroom and student needs.
  • strive to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • identify learning disabilities and seek assistance from district specialists as necessary.
  • take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • maintain accurate, complete, and correct records per law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and develop reasonable classroom rules and procedures.
  • provide availability to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours when required.
  • strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • confer with other teachers regarding art needs/projects based on instructional method.
  • perform other duties as requested by the principal or designee.

licensure / certificate requirements
  • valid ri certification in art for grades pk‑12.
  • bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
desirable qualifications
  • minimum of two years teaching experience.
compensation / hours / benefits
  • full psd benefits package; 184‑day contract.
  • salary range dependent on step level and degree attainment level.
