Job Description Summary

All resources, and logistics required to perform services and maintenance activities on customers' site/property. These activities contribute to, maintain, repair and refurbish sold or existing products. Includes all types of maintenance service (preventive and remedial), manage maintenance facilities and field services engineering. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures.

Some judgement may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform installation and commissioning on GE Power Conversion automation, Level1 and Level2 process systems at customer sites in Steel/Aluminum/Copper Plants, Mining and under construction plants.
  • Work unsupervised and lead small teams.
  • Install and test field instruments – Pressure, flow, speed, motion, sensors, RTD, X‑ray, laser scanners and encoders.
  • Install and commission GE Rxi/HPCi controller and Scada system.
  • Perform FAT and PAT with customers as per contract agreement.
  • Communicate and interface with third‑party or customer systems.
  • Program software changes at site during commissioning and services.
  • Execute troubleshooting activities at scheduled visits or on‑site to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of automation systems.
  • Provide 24/7 on‑call support during scheduled periods to respond to customer service calls.
  • Ensure engineering and technical support is accurate, high quality, and timely to meet customer needs and business goals.
  • Support customers onsite and remotely regarding system and component problems.
  • Identify new opportunities and drive development of effective offerings to improve in‑service equipment reliability and availability.
  • Provide support to engineering teams on automation system upgrade projects.
  • Support the bidding process for Metals Automation L1/L2 system upgrade prospects.
  • Provide on‑site/remote support for new unit installation, startup and other outage work scopes.
  • Perform other related engineering tasks to facilitate proper commissioning and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide on‑call support in response to customer calls for service.
  • Ensure appropriate response and service is provided to the customer.
  • Complete timely service reports and other administrative requirements.
  • Support business growth opportunities and marketing campaigns.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 5 additional years of related industry experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of field service and/or commissioning experience.
  • Experience in a field service/commissioning environment with automation systems in a Process/metals/Mining/Cement/Paper environment.
  • Detailed knowledge, competence and expertise with installation and commissioning tasks and services for automation.
  • Programming skills in Controllers/PLC/DCS/SCADA Systems (Ladder, FBD, Structure, etc.) and experience with communication protocols – Ethernet, Profibus, Modbus, Fieldbus, EtherCAT, etc.
  • Experience handling HMI, OPC, remote I/O and field instruments and sensors.
  • Variable speed drives experience for commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with GE Drive systems.
  • Minimum 2 years of practical working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive system (including MV7000, SD7000, MV3000).
  • Experience in working with GEPC EMS system and Power Management system.
  • Experience commissioning variable speed drives of Siemens, ABB, Toshiba, Danfoss or Rockwell.
  • Minimum 2 years of practical working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive/system controller (including PEC, PECe, CDC).
