1) SPANISH FLSA Status
- Local 1352, Non-Exempt, 12-month position Multilingual Parent and Community Support staff provide language support to parents, schools, the central office, and the community. Responsible for providing information, resources, and services to parents and families in multiple languages. This position reports to the Director of Multilingual Learners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for translating all official PSD school communications and documents, including but not limited to policy handbooks, letters, IEPs, parent communications, pamphlets, notices, and forms. Communicates with parents in Spanish/Portuguese on behalf of faculty, staff, and administrators Translate IEPs and student records from Spanish or Portuguese-speaking countries Interpret during parent-teacher conferences, Open House nights, Special Education evaluation teams, truancy court, social histories, and Special Education assessments Interprets during preschool screenings in Head Start and Pre-K programs Interpret at out-of-district meetings, school meetings, parent engagement meetings, and district events.
Assists in maintaining accurate records for students currently receiving MLL services Collaborates with the Student Registration Department to register MLL students. Schedules MLL testing appointments with parents of newly registered students and tests the students. Responsible for maintaining and sharing a calendar of daily appointments Documents direct services provided to parents, teachers, and administrators Ensures timely and accurate data entry for school, district, state, and federal reporting purposes in the Student Information Database Ensures calls are answered promptly, and messages are appropriately disseminated.
Attends meetings as assigned. Ability to perform other duties assigned by the Director in order to meet the specific needs of the Pawtucket School Department and its students. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to read, write, translate and interpret in one or both languages. Ability to operate standard office equipment, including utilizing pertinent software applications. Ability to maintain confidentiality Strong problem-solving skills to interpret guidelines independently. Ability to use sound judgment and knowledge of student behaviors and school department policies and procedures to make decisions Strong interpersonal skills Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to practice patience with employees, students, supervisors, and the general public Timely completion of tasks and paperwork requirements to meet deadlines and schedules Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and executing tasks effectively Ability to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent Bilingual
- Spanish or Portuguese Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in Spanish or Portuguese Proficiency in working with computers; working knowledge of Google Docs and Google sheets and/or Microsoft products A valid Driver's License Flexibility to work beyond business hours, if needed Attend district and RI Department of Education-sponsored professional development to update skills as needed.

Previous experience working with children AS Degree or college courses PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequently required to stand, sit and walk Occasional lifting or carrying weighing up to 25 pounds The working conditions (light, noise level, temperature, etc. are typical of (primarily) an office setting Specific physical abilities include close vision, using computer monitors for long periods, and communicating verbally in person and on the telephone.
