The Public Archaeology Laboratory (PAL), Pawtucket, RI, is a full-service New England cultural resource management (CRM) firm. We offer archaeological services primarily in New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions. Our clients include governmental agencies, corporations, engineering firms, and private developers from the energy, telecommunications, transportation, and environmental market sectors.

PAL’s Seasonal Field Archaeologists assist with all phases of terrestrial archaeological investigations in a variety of environmental settings including urban, inland, and coastal locations, under the supervision of the Project Archaeologist.
In this role you will perform archaeological excavations with hand tools and/or machine-assistance, identify and record cultural deposits including artifacts and features on standardized PAL field forms, work collaboratively in a team environment while following PAL and client health and safety protocols.
Requirements- B.A./B.S. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field required
- Successful completion of an accredited archaeological field school
- Previous New England cultural resource management (CRM) experience preferred
- Able to perform fieldwork in a physically demanding environment and variable weather conditions
- Able to travel on short notice
Required skills include the ability to conduct fieldwork using appropriate field techniques and methodology, ability to take detailed notes and maintain accurate field records, ability to use effective verbal and written communication and take direction, and have a working knowledge of GPS units, map orienteering skills, and cameras.

Seasonal Field Archaeologists, Northern New England Region Be a Part of Exceptional Field Opportunities in Vermont:PAL has two exciting data recovery field opportunities in Vermont this season: a pre-contact Native American site on the Connecticut River in Windham County, Vermont; and a nineteenth-century industrial site at the Pike Hill Copper Mines in Orange County, Vermont. Fieldwork will begin late spring and continue through the summer and fall at both site locations. MUST BE 40-HOUR HAZWOPER CERTIFIED for work at the copper mines site.
Hourly Rates are from $20 to $25, commensurate with experience. Lodging for non-local projects is provided with per diem and mileage reimbursement. PAL offers Paid Holidays, a 403(b) plan, and Sick Time.
