Overview
The mission of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island is to meet the nutritional and special needs of older adults and other populations to help them maintain their independence. Since 1969, from Westerly to Woonsocket our staff and volunteers serve 1,500 meals each day. While the Home-Delivered Meal Program is the most recognized service, Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island also has a Capital City Café Program, a Restaurant Voucher Program, Pet Food Program and a Senior Wish Program for those in need.
SummaryThe Delivery Driver supports the day to day operation of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island’s home delivered meal program. This includes ensuring there are sufficient meals for the route, delivering meals, conducing a safety check and providing home bound seniors an opportunity for socialization.
This is a part-time position;
Monday through Friday with core hours of 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.
- Drive a Meals on Wheels of RI delivery vehicle
- Ensure that sufficient entrées and cold packs are available for each recipient
- Conduct a safety check upon meal delivery and report concerns
- Provide client an opportunity for socialization
- Deliver menus, greeting cards and any other informational material
- Keep delivery vehicle clean
- Report any damage to delivery vehicle
- Deliver emergency shelf stable food/frozen dinners to clients, as needed
- Adhere to the Employee Handbook and Driver Rules & Regulations
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and special events
- Other duties as assigned
$16.00 per hour.
RequirementsEducation and Experience
- 1-3 years driving experience
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Experience working with older populations, preferred

- Possesses high energy, positive attitude, dedication
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds
- Must be able to climb stairs
