Short Term Rental Enforcement Officer
Job DescriptionThe purpose of this position is to enforce the Gila County Short Term Rental Ordinance and other Ordinances using the Gila County Hearing Officer Rule of Procedure. This position investigates potentially unregistered short-term rental properties and other complaints in Gila County, verifies ownership using recorded property deeds, drafts legal documents for service of process, presents evidence at a hearing to the Gila County Hearing Officer, and monitors the status of a high volume of cases.
This position may also conduct on-site inspections and prepare reports on inspections. The role also involves customer service duties.
High School Diploma or GED. Two (2) years relevant experience in code enforcement or familiarity of building codes; or equivalent education, training and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Supplemental InformationKnowledge required includes customer and personal service; building and construction; public safety and security; law and government;
Federal, State, Local laws, regulations, Gila County Ordinances and Statutes. Basic statistical techniques and applications; business English and report writing, computer software for database and presentations, and spreadsheets. Skills required include communicating diplomatically; customer service; persuading and influencing; negotiating; problem recognition; problem solving; multi-tasking; typing and data entry. Abilities required include making sense of multiple data; multi-tasking; maintaining hand-eye coordination;
maintaining calm demeanor in stressful situations and reading and writing at professional level. Physical demands include regularly standing to attend to customers, routinely sitting to complete reports and operate computers, occasionally lifting under 10 lbs., occasionally lifting up to 75 lbs., rarely lifting over 75 lbs., rarely requiring dexterity for keyboard operation, and routinely bending. Work environment includes using standard office equipment, driving a motor vehicle to attend meetings and visit various work sites including outside construction sites, and using standard office equipment in the course of the work.
Safety risk exposure includes rare occasions of exposure to telephone verbal abuse by customers or citizens, physical danger, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire hazards, dogs, and extreme temperature. Protective gear and safety manuals are required to be followed constantly. Consequences of error can cause inconveniences to other employees, delays in related work areas, and delays of services.
