Description of Duties / Essential Functions

Under general supervision of the Shift Commander and Public Service Administrator, instructs and supervises Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers, and Correctional Officer Trainees; enforces and maintains discipline, safety, security, maintenance, sanitation and custodial measures for the control of offenders; monitors compliance with Departmental Rules, Administrative Directives and Institutional Policies.

• Completion of four years of high school education and an approved Correctional Officer Training Program.
• At least two years of experience as a Correctional Officer in a penal or security institution.
• Thorough knowledge of institutional rules, regulations and requirements for the control of offenders.
• Working knowledge of the individual and group attitudes and behaviors of offenders in penal or correctional institutions.
• Working knowledge of methods and techniques used in discipline of employees and persons in correctional institutions.
• Working knowledge of practices and procedures in prison administration.
• Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, run, jump, walk, and stand for short or extended periods of time.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to properly use firearms.
