Overview
The purpose of this position is to ensure safety while using cost-effective measures.
This position weighs vehicles, moves traffic and assists customers at the landfill. The worker operates trucks, performs cleaning duties and trains new employees. Other responsibilities include bookkeeping and report preparation.
Responsibilities- Weigh vehicles, move traffic safely and provide directions to customers. (~50%)
- Maintain billing records, collect fees, balance reports, and make deposits. (~20%)
- Prepare reports, including waste tire count, recycled paper reports and end‑of‑month totals. (~10%)
- Operate dump truck, water truck and pull magnet; pick up litter and clean area around scalehouse. (~10%)
- Train new scalehouse employees in landfill procedures. (~10%)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position does not supervise other employees.
Budget ResponsibilitiesThis position has no responsibility over any types of budget.
Project ResponsibilitiesThis position does not have project responsibilities.
Communication DutiesOral: trains colleagues in scalehouse operation.
Written: creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails and reports.
Interacts regularly with internal coworkers and other departmental personnel by telephone, email, and/or in person. Incidental contact with the public may occur at the location; customer interaction occurs more than 85% of the time.
Qualifications- Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum experience: One year of customer service and cash handling or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Credentials: Valid Driver’s License.
- Knowledge: Clerical, customer and personal service, cash handling.
- Skills: Diplomatic communication, customer service, problem recognition, problem solving, multi‑tasking, typing and data entry.
- Abilities: Categorize and group data, perform mathematical operations, maintain focus, multi‑task, remain calm in stressful situations, adapt to weather conditions.
- Stand for cash register and customer interactions.
- Sit for reports or computer operation.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. Occasionally require dexterity for keyboard or special equipment.
- Walk to work sites, bend, stoop, twist as needed.
Mostly office/lobby environment; occasionally in cars and routinely in equipment operation areas.
Safety and Protective GearFollow written safety procedures and manuals; may be required to wear a hard hat.
Consequences of ErrorErrors can cause inconvenience or delays to other employees and related work areas. Service delays possible.
