Overview

Responsible for assessing patients, administering medications, monitoring withdrawal symptoms, and supporting both the clinical team and patients throughout the detox process. This position is ideal for nurses who value a calm, structured environment and enjoy providing hands-on, supportive care.

Part-Time and PRN schedules are available.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care for adult patients undergoing inpatient medical detox.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing nursing assessments, including vitals, withdrawal scales (e.g., CIWA/COWS), and clinical observations.
  • Administer medications as ordered, including detox-related protocols.
  • Monitor patients for safety, symptom changes, and complications during withdrawal.
  • Document patient care accurately and in compliance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with the clinical and medical team to support individualized treatment plans.
  • Offer emotional support, education, and reassurance to patients throughout the detox process.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and follow established protocols.
  • Participate in nursing handoffs and contribute to team communication.
    • Qualifications
  • Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Utah.
  • Experience in detox, behavioral health, emergency, or medical-surgical nursing preferred (but not required).
  • Strong assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a moderate-acuity medical setting.
  • Compassionate, patient-focused approach to care.

    Avant is a 3.7 level Utah State Licensed Social Medical Detox with 8 patient beds for inpatient substance detox services. Avant provides services for acute substance use disorder (SUD) including the use of FDA-approved medication to manage withdrawal symptons and around the clock medical supervision by experienced registered nurses.
