Responsibilities
  • Battery Service Tech is responsible for supporting and promoting the goals of the battery program and for providing safe, best-in-class roadside service solutions for AAA members.
  • Respond to member requests for service within an ETA (estimated time of arrival).
  • Ensure member safety and vehicle security; educate members on possible issues; provide jump starts, flat tire replacement, vehicle entries, and other related services.
  • Test all batteries; install and replace batteries as needed; provide roadside diagnostic and repair assistance to disabled member vehicles; promote AAA products and services; ensure complete resolution of member issues.
  • Achieve club performance standards for go rates and member satisfaction; provide safe, world-class on-the-go roadside service in a Battery Service Vehicle while achieving performance standards and member satisfaction.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing on a variety of disabled vehicle systems, including electrical, battery, starting, charging, ignition, and fuel delivery.
  • Perform battery testing, maintenance on battery terminals, determine if the battery needs boosting or replacement, and install appropriate batteries on-the-spot; follow safety procedures and, if towing is required, call for tow.
  • Maintain the service vehicle and equipment in good working order; restock batteries and inventory tools and products; dispose of obsolete batteries following hazardous waste procedures.
  • Operate a laptop to record activity, invoicing, receipts, and inventory; ensure appearance and general mechanical condition of the assigned vehicle.
  • Certify to operate a Battery Service Vehicle by completing required training and annual refreshers.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
What You Will Do
  • Respond to member requests for service.
  • Accept calls and respond to Dispatch or members with ETA; clarify location and potential vehicle issue when appropriate.
  • Locate members and assess scene safety on arrival to ensure the vehicle is in a safe location for service.
  • Greet members and address their emotional state, offering reassurance.
  • Communicate the battery program clearly to the member, including testing importance and recommended battery type.
  • Report results of diagnostic testing and provide referrals to AAR-approved facilities when needed.
  • Provide minor mechanical assistance if trained and equipped; offer battery service.
  • Follow all safety procedures in accordance with Club policies.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School GED required; at least 21 years of age.
  • Experience:

    Post-secondary training in automotive mechanics and familiarity with electrical troubleshooting preferred.
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Active and valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of one-year DOT card pre-hire; must pass motor vehicle record check during pre-hire and periodically thereafter.
