Family Shelter Program Coordinator

Full-Time | Direct Hire | Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM $22–$25/hour + Comprehensive Benefits

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and mission-driven Family Shelter Program Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of a family shelter program serving approximately 50 families across congregate, scattered-site, and motel/hotel units.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping families achieve stability, resilience, and independence while working in a collaborative, trauma-informed environment.

Position Overview

The Family Shelter Program Coordinator works closely with shelter leadership, case managers, and community partners to ensure families receive the support, resources, and guidance needed throughout their shelter stay.

This position combines program coordination, participant support, housing assistance, documentation, and shelter operations responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities Participant Support & Program Coordination
  • Utilize trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches when working with participants and families
  • Welcome and orient new participants to shelter programs, policies, and available resources
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Assist participants with housing applications, housing searches, and related documentation
  • Support families in accessing community resources and supportive services
  • Monitor participant needs and ensure emergency and basic needs are addressed
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate participant records and documentation
  • Complete incident reports and required program documentation
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and program regulations
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams to ensure continuity of care
Shelter Operations
  • Coordinate routine shelter inspections and maintenance requests
  • Monitor inventory and order household and program supplies
  • Assist with participant move-ins and move-outs
  • Support food pantry and resource distribution efforts
  • Maintain accurate records of participant services and program activities
Crisis Intervention & Safety
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills when needed
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies following program procedures
  • Collaborate with behavioral health and emergency response resources as necessary
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for participants
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with case managers, maintenance staff, children's services, and leadership teams
  • Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and ongoing professional development
  • Support housing stabilization efforts and participant success plans
Qualifications Required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
Preferred
  • Experience working in social services, shelters, housing programs, human services, community outreach, case management, or related fields
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and strengths-based service models
  • Experience supporting individuals and families experiencing housing instability
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs throughout the workday
  • Ability to work on a computer and complete documentation tasks regularly
