Sr Mechanical Engineer
Participates in a development team under the instruction and direction of a more senior engineer. Assist in the design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical hardware components and systems.
Thermal simulation experience using Ansys Icepack – MUST Liquid cooling experience – preferred Develop designs for Opto-mechanical components and systems for optical and mechanical integration. Confer with Senior and Staff Engineers to prepare and document design modifications as required. May confer with research resources to clarify or resolve component problems. May employ quality improvement and supplier relations approach utilizing customer required formats such as Production Parts Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Production Quality Process (APQP) techniques.
Must be proficient in CAD software (NX, CATIA) for designing and development of components and/or systems. Must possess problem solving skills, and capable of creating multiple design solutions. Must be proficient in 6-sigma design and development implementation. Will prepare mechanical drawings, product and system related specifications, and Bills of Material (BOM). Accuracy of BOM must be confirmed. Confirm availability and facilitate acquisition of new components for builds.
Directs and coordinates manufacture or building of prototype products and systems. Determines component requirements appropriate to product. Must be capable of system level design work. Must plan, develop, and participate in experimentation and tests related to product development. Generate and analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Participate in development of design process procedure and plan development of experimental test programs.
May develop test and design process procedures evaluating test results for possible application to other products and/or systems. May assist with developing, participating in and analyzing research to determine feasibility of proposed product specifications. Must gain knowledge of budget requirements related to product development. Provide assistance and technical guidance to less experienced engineers. Interprets and complies with Company policies, procedures, and regulations.
Prepares reports, charts, graphs, and other statistical information. Will initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels. Performs other related duties as assigned.
PROBLEM-SOLVING/KNOW HOW:(complexity of problems and education/experience & other knowledge required) Four-year College Degree in at least one STEM major (Science; Technology; Engineering; Math) and a minimum of five (5) years of experience; or a minimum of ten (10) years of mechanical design experience in electronics products applying plastic injection and/or metal molding concepts. Three years experience in an electronics-manufacturing environment required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Windows-based databases as appropriate to the position and assignment. Simulation tools (Icepack, Light Tools, Ansys, etc) experience preferred. Experience in automotive electronics packaging preferred. Design experience in plastics, stampings and castings including knowledge of part fabrication process required. CATIA or NX experience required. Thermal Management experience preferred. Camera mounting methods within an automotive or military environment preferred.
Prior experience using Zemax software and proficiency in using standard optical measurement equipment is preferred.

Must have the ability to direct and coordinate manufacture or building of prototype products and systems. Must have the ability to function with multiple tasks and interface with other disciplines. Must possess broad understanding of various areas within main discipline. Must be able to work with minimal supervision displaying strong self-motivation. Must have the ability to learn computer applications as necessary for the position.
Must successfully complete any training or certification courses required to support or strengthen position. Must have the ability to read, interpret, and follow verbal and written instructions, work procedures and other related materials.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must communicate appropriate information accurately and clearly as needed. Must have the ability to effectively and appropriately interface and communicate with a variety of individuals or groups on a frequent basis.
MANAGEMENT:
Currently this position does not have direct reports but the ideal candidate will be expected to have experience with projects in a collaborative matrix organization and act in a technical/project leadership role.
