We are frequently retained by law firms, insurance companies, and manufacturers to answer complex technical questions on projects ranging from small, focused investigations to large-scale, high-profile losses.

ESi's Civil and Structural team evaluates, investigates, and restores structures and sites through detailed inspections, engineering research, and advanced analysis. By identifying damage, distress, and failure causes, the team develops practical remediation and repair solutions that restore safety, performance, and reliability across the built environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating forensic and consulting projects involving construction cost estimation, damages quantification, and construction defect analysis.
  • Preparing and reviewing detailed construction cost estimates and loss-of-use calculations for litigation and insurance clients.
  • Evaluating contractor bids, change orders, and construction budgets; identifying overcharges, errors, and discrepancies.
  • Reviewing construction documents, contracts, specifications, and schedules to evaluate compliance with standards and scope.
  • Authoring high-quality technical reports and expert opinions on construction cost and damages matters.
  • Providing expert testimony at deposition and trial.
  • Conducting well-developed and well-prepared client presentations.
  • Establishing work plan and staffing for each phase of project, and arranging for assignment of project personnel.
  • Directing and coordinating projects within prescribed schedule and budget scopes.
  • Working with Business Development to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base.
  • Actively participating in Business Development activities, including client meetings, presentations, and appropriate conferences.
  • Mentoring earlier-career employees in growth and development.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), Certified Cost Professional (CCP), or similar credential preferred; P.E. license a plus.
  • 10–15 years of experience in construction cost estimating, construction management, or forensic consulting.
  • Broad experience preparing detailed cost estimates across commercial, residential, and industrial construction sectors.
  • Track record authoring high-quality technical reports and/or expert reports; experience providing expert testimony highly desirable.
  • Experience in the consulting industry preferred; established client relationships highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and cost estimating software (e.g., RSMeans, Xactimate, or equivalent).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with clients professionally and develop business internally and externally.
  • Ability to communicate complex construction cost concepts clearly to legal and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be available to travel occasionally as part of the national practice.
