We follow a unit‑based model of care, with a nurse manager overseeing the overall functioning of each residential unit.

Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Our mission is to provide exceptional care and an optimal quality of life for patients with special needs. Each patient has a primary nurse who coordinates all care needs. Nurses and nurse managers work closely with paraprofessional staff for ongoing communication and teaching about each patient. We maintain close contact with families and acknowledge them as a valued member of the healthcare team.

Matheny currently has a career opportunity for Full‑Time Registered Nurses for the 7am‑7pm shift. Qualified candidates will receive a signing bonus of $10,000.00 ($5,000.00 after six months of continuous employment and the remaining $5,000.00 after twelve months).

• Demonstrates effective assessment skills by collecting and analyzing data, interviewing, observing, and examining patients, and reviewing medical records.
• Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients served.
• Formulates a comprehensive and unique plan of care for each patient; monitors outcomes and revises the plan as needed.
• Demonstrates critical thinking to determine appropriate interventions and to collaborate with physicians or other clinicians.
• Works with and supervises PCA staff or unlicensed assistive personnel who provide direct patient care of ADLs.
• Oversees proper infection control practices within the work environment.
• Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team comprised of therapies, social services, physician, psychology, clinical nutrition, and direct support professionals.
• Communicates with families/guardians on all patient‑related issues.
• May be required to perform additional responsibilities in emergencies or due to staff absences, including extra weekend or holiday time.

For Full‑Time employees, Matheny offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package that includes medical/dental, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, tax‑deferred retirement plan, and generous paid time off. The hourly rate for this position is $44.50 – $48.75 per hour.

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Licensed Registered Nurse by the State of New Jersey Board of Nursing.
• Current CPR Certification required.
• ACLS and/or PALS certification preferred.
• IV certification preferred.
