This position is a temporary, part-time appointment specifically for in-person instruction on 'Oahu. This semester-to-semester contract may only be teaching one class. There are no associated relocation benefits.
This Faculty of Culture, Language, & Performing Arts at BYU–Hawaii invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Faculty position in Japanese language instruction. The successful candidate may teach up to 9 credit hours in the Fall and Winter semesters, and 6 credit hours in the Spring semester. Employment begins in the 2027 Winter semester.
Primary Responsibilities- Teach beginning, intermediate, and/or high-level Japanese language courses
- Prepare course materials and assessments following departmental standards
- Provide students with timely feedback and academic support
- Maintain regular office hours
- Manage student tutors and their time sheets
- Master’s degree in Japanese, Language Education, or a related field
- Fluency in Japanese and English
- Commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching
- Willingness to teach in-person on BYU–Hawaii’s campus
- Master’s degree in Japanese, Second Language Teaching, or related field
- Prior experience teaching Japanese at the college level
- Familiarity with communicative and student-centered teaching approaches
Approximate starting adjunct semester contract $1,425 - $2,175 per credit, the wage offered is dependent upon applicants' degree and years of university level teaching experience.

To be eligible for employment, applicants who are members of the Church must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend and receive a clearance from the Church's Ecclesiastical Clearance Office.
